Uganda Chartered Healthnet (UCH) is an Incorporated Nonprofit Organization established in 2003 to respond to the information needs of health care practitioners in Uganda. Of significant importance was the response to the triple challenges of: availability of relevant information, quick and reliable access to information and communication between colleagues, and capacity to use information and communication technology. UCH is a pioneer provider of email services to health organisations in Uganda including the Ministry of Health, the World Health Organization, the AIDS Control Program, and etcetera.
- Recognized at the 3rd Annual Baramati initiative on ICT held in Pune, Maharashtra, India, 2002, for innovation and visionary development-driven leadership in health.
- Winner of the Digital Partners’ Africa Champions’ 2004 Award at Accra, Ghana, for selfless and outstanding services in utilizing the digital economy to empower the poor.
- Winner of the World Information Technology and Services Alliance (WITSA) Award for innovation and excellence in the health sector at the 2006 15th World Congress on Information Technology summit, Austin, Texas, USA.
